Cantabo! Children’s Musical Theater began as the brain child of a group of moms who thought it would be fun to put on a play with their home schooled children.

So, with a license for The Music Man Jr. in hand, and a volunteer director the group assembled their friends and began rehearsing. After nine weeks of practice, the small cast of fifteen students (both elementary and high school) made their debut in front of a small crowd in a local church.

Not only were they pleased with the result, but so pleased that they decided to do it again the next year. When auditions were held for Beauty and the Beast Jr., not fifteen, but fifty students wanted to be cast in the show! That was in 2013.

Since then hundreds of children have participated in our shows. Thanks to a creative director team, a plethora of parent volunteers, and support from local businesses and families. CCMT has been able to produce 1-3 shows each year including:

Aladdin Jr., Peter Pan Jr., Willy Wonka Jr., Wizard of Oz Jr., The Little Mermaid Jr., The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Frozen Jr. Aristocats Kids, Seussical Kids, 101 Dalmantion kids, Lion King Kids, Junglebook Kids, Mid Summer Night’s Dream for Kids, Winnie the Pooh Kids, Aladdin, and full Broadway productions of Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of Penzance, and A Christmas Carol (2023)

We have enjoyed the journey, and are looking forward to many more shows, and we are now open to all students who may not otherwise have opportunity for theater in their local school.

Theater teaches kids so many life lessons, and helps them to be more confident as people. Plus, the theater is a great place to find new friends and build lasting relationships (parents too). So, that being said, we believe that every kid should try the theater…at least once!
